Phoenix Woman Accidently Runs Over, Kills Abusive Boyfriend

Phoenix police are investigating a vehicle collision involving a victim of domestic violence and the boyfriend she accidently ran over.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a domestic violence call in the area of 31st Avenue and Mandalay Lane after the caller stated she ran over her boyfriend over while attempting to drive away. Phoenix police officers and the Phoenix Fire Department arrived and found a man, later identified as 29-year-old Marceliano Herrera, laying on the roadway with a woman rendering aid. The fire department rushed Herrera to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Detectives responded to investigate the collision. After processing the scene and speaking to witnesses they learned Herrera was holding on to a passenger door handle as a vehicle attempted to leave. Herrera fell and was ran over by the vehicle. The driver immediately stopped, called 911 and provided medical aid. The driver was evaluated by detectives and did not show any signs of impairment. The driver was released pending the conclusion of the investigation.
