Phoenix Police Detectives are investigating a late-night collision involving a city bus that left a man dead.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on July 29, 2023, around 12:30 a.m. officers responded to the area of 7th Street and Bell Road regarding a collision involving a city bus. When officers arrived, they located the city bus and the adult male driver of the vehicle involved in the collision with the bus. The man, identified as 23-year-old Christian Leal-Coronado, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Leal-Coronado did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The bus driver and the lone passenger on the bus did not sustain injuries as a result of the collision.
Detectives believe that Leal-Coronado was driving his vehicle southbound on 7th Street approaching Bell Road, when, for unknown reasons, he crossed into the northbound lanes all the way to the curb lane. Leal-Coronado’s vehicle collided with the involved city bus which was traveling northbound on 7th Street in the curb lane.
