
Phoenix Police Detectives are investigating a west valley collision the left one man dead and five others transported to local hospitals.
On August 13, 2023, around 5:15 a.m. officers responded to the area of 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street regarding a collision that resulted in several injuries. When officers arrived, they located the adult male driver of one of the vehicles involved, identified as 20-year-old Sergio De Le Torre Quintero, with serious injuries. Phoenix Fire arrived and attempted life saving measures, but Quintero did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
Passengers from Quintero’s vehicle, to include three adult males and a juvenile female, were all transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. They are all listed as stable and remain in the hospital. The adult male driver of the other vehicle involved was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives believe that Quintero was traveling westbound on Van Buren Street when he ran the red light at 35th Avenue and struck the other vehicle involved which was traveling northbound on 35th Avenue. Speed and impairment are both believed to be factors in this collision. Specifics about other details related to this incident remain part of the ongoing investigation.
