On November 2, 2023, a Yavapai County jury found a Prescott Valley man, David Lee Jones, guilty of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Disorderly Conduct with a Deadly Weapon.

“This case started over a dispute about a parking space at a fast-food restaurant,” said Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane. “Losing a parking space is never a reason to threaten someone with a firearm. The Second Amendment provides an excellent opportunity for firearms owners to protect themselves and others, but responsible gun ownership requires one to maintain a cool head and good judgment at all times.”

According to the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office, the incident occurred in a parking lot outside a Prescott Valley, Arizona fast-food restaurant on the evening of August 3, 2022. The 33-year-old Jones became upset when another driver pulled into a parking space that Jones wanted for himself. Jones used his car to block the other driver, and began yelling and swearing at the other driver. Jones then exited his car with a loaded gun in his hand and pointed the gun at the other driver as other people in the parking lot looked on, some in fear for their lives.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 4, 2023 at 3:00 p.m., in Yavapai County Superior Court. Jones is facing a minimum of five years in the Arizona State Prison.
