Jaywalker Killed In Crash West Of Downtown

Detectives investigate events leading to the fatal collision that left a man dead just west of downtown Phoenix early Wednesday morning.

Phoenix Police responded to the area of 300 North 27th Avenue on the morning of November 22, 2023, at about 5:30 a.m., to investigate a serious collision involving a car and a pedestrian. When officers got to the scene, they found a man, identified as 34-year-old Fernando Castrellon, suffering from serious life-threatening injuries.

Castrellon was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

The driver of the car, an adult male, stayed on scene and did not show any signs of impairment.

Detectives responded and learned from witness’s that the victim was crossing 27th Avenue just north of Van Buren Street outside of any marked cross walk when he was hit by a car driving south on 27th Avenue.
