Maricopa County Recorder Richer Deleted Tweet: ‘Nigga’ Basketball Player Needs Jail Time

In a since-deleted X post, Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer shared a post in which Golden State Warriors basketball player Draymond Green was called a “nigga” that should be jailed.

Richer reposted a video of Green striking Phoenix Suns player Jusuf Nurkić in the face during Tuesday night’s home game. Green’s assault prompted his ejection from the game. The caption above the video read: “How is this nigga Draymond Green still in the NBA instead of a jail cell.”

Green later apologized for punching Nurkić in a post-game interview with the press, saying that he didn’t intend to strike his opponent. Green has a history of assaulting other players.

“I am not one to apologize for things I meant to do, but I do apologize to Jusuf because I didn’t intend to hit him,” said Green. “I sell calls with my arms[,] so I was selling the call because he was grabbing me and pulling my hip so I swung and unfortunately I hit him.”

The Suns prevailed narrowly over the Warriors, 119-116.

Several weeks prior, Green put a Minnesota Timberwolves player in a headlock, resulting in a five-game suspension from the NBA. It’s likely that this latest incident will result in another, longer suspension, anticipated to be 10 games this time around.

Although Richer unshared the post calling Green a “nigga” worthy of jail time, he kept his “like” on the post.

Yet, just last week Richer liked a post condemning an incident in which Norfolk State University basketball players were allegedly called “niggers” by several Illinois State fans in the stands.

“I’m not letting anybody call my players a racial slur,” stated Jones. “We have come too far in society to be called the N word at a college basketball game.”

Richer’s contradictory display of values indicates that the county recorder deems slurs acceptable for those he dislikes or opposes.

One post liked by Richer came from former left-leaning, Republican-identifying congressman Adam Kinzinger, who called Alex Jones, Elon Musk, Andrew Tate, and Vivek Ramaswamy “the demons of Twitter.”
