The Pima County Board of Supervisors Tuesday voted 3-1 to appoint Sylvia M. Lee, Ph.D., to join them on the Board and complete the term of former District 3 Supervisor Sharon Bronson.
Supervisor Steve Christy was the lone “no” vote.
The controversial Lee will join the Board at its January 9th, 2024 meeting.
While serving as a Pima Community College campus President and Dean between 1996 and 2011, and later as the District 3 PCC Board member from 2013 to 2018, Lee earned a reputation as being a “Grijalvalista” and bully.
Lee’s educational background includes a PCC associate’s degree; University of Arizona bachelor’s and master’s degrees in counseling and guidance; Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies from Arizona State University.
A total of eight candidates sought the appointment to the vacant District 3 Supervisor office. Bronson, who held the District 3 seat on the Board of Supervisors for 27 years, retired in November.
Lee will serve the remainder of Bronson’s term, which expires Dec. 31, 2024.
