Phoenix Police detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred just after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a robbery call at about 4:07 p.m. on January 27, 2024, with details saying a man and a woman took guns from the store and left.

When officers got to the area of 21st Avenue and Indian School Road they contacted a couple, Guy Robert Vogel Jr., age 42, and Felicia Evans, age 25, believed to be involved.

While contacting them, officers began to give verbal commands. An officer on scene discharged his 40 mm less-lethal launcher at Vogel who was refusing to obey commands. Vogel ran west on Indian School Road and attempted to enter a truck stopped on Indian School Road facing east. Officers re-contacted Vogel who then pointed a handgun at them leading to the officer involved shooting.

Vogel was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Evans was taken into custody and received no injuries.
