Last week a Yavapai County jury found Stanley Wilburn Smith, 66, of Prescott, guilty of ten counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.

The investigation began after Smith’s girlfriend discovered a large number of sexually explicit images of children on Smith’s phone, and called the police. A forensic expert later examined the phone pursuant to a search warrant, and discovered hundreds of images. Some of the children appeared to be well under ten years of age.

Smith is facing a minimum of 100 years in prison due to the young ages of the children in the images.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 25, 2024, before Judge Debra Phelan of the Yavapai County Superior Court.

Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane thanked the jurors for their careful attention to the evidence at trial.

“Persons who sexualize young children have no place in society,” said McGrane. “Parents in Yavapai County can rest assured that my office will vigorously prosecute anyone who seeks to victimize our kids.”
