A Phoenix man, Osman Perez Vazquez, has been sentenced to prison for setting two houses on fire in West Phoenix.

According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, on May 29, 2023, the Phoenix Fire Department extinguished a fire at a vacant home that was undergoing renovations. A few days later, authorities were alerted to another house fire in the same neighborhood. In the second home, two people were inside during the fire and were able to escape to safety. The fires caused $45,000 worth of damage to the homes.

After his arrest, Vazquez admitted to setting both houses on fire because he believed his neighbors were following him and taking his belongings. He also claimed he had plans to torch his mother’s house, as well.

In May of this year, Vazquez pled guilty to two counts of Arson of an Occupied Structure, a Class Two Felony. He was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections and three years of supervised probation upon release.
