Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in front of an apartment complex parking lot that left a younger female dead and two others injured.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers were called to a shooting near 7th Avenue and Alta Vista Road just before 7:30 pm. When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The fire department responded and rushed the woman, later identified as 16-year-old female, Yadira Duarte Rodriguez to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Later in the evening, two additional victims drove to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The man and the woman provided information that linked them to the shooting on Alta Vista Road.
Homicide detectives believe that the man and the woman arrived at the apartment complex in a vehicle to meet Rodriguez. Rodriguez got into their vehicle where she pulled out a firearm and attempted to rob them. The woman then fought with Rodriguez over the firearm. Sometime during the struggle, the man gained access to a firearm and shot Rodriguez. During the shooting, both the man and the women were struck with gunfire. They pulled Rodriguez from the vehicle and drove off.
Both the man and woman were released after detectives consulted with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. A charging decision will be made once the investigation is complete.
