A Phoenix man, Brandon Michael Lujan, who was convicted in June of the violent murder of his parents and brother in their Central Phoenix home has received three natural life sentences.
Lujan’s sentences provide no possibility of release.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, in 2021, Phoenix Police were called to a local hospital after defendant Lujan disclosed to staff that he had murdered his family members the night before.
According to police, Lujan first shot his brother, then entered the home and began firing at his parents. Lujan fired so many times, he had to stop the barrage to reload his gun.
Two of Lujan’s young daughters were in his vehicle the day of the murder, and one heard their father say, “I’m going to kill them [all]” before hearing gunshots and screaming coming from the home.
During their investigation, police learned Lujan and his wife, Raylien Loest, had recently been kicked out of his parent’s residence. Loest was the getaway driver on the day of the murders. She was tried, convicted, and sentenced to three years in prison.
Lujan was found guilty of three counts of First-Degree Murder, each a Class One Dangerous Felony and Domestic Violence offense.
“To murder your family in such a deliberate, callous manner and express no remorse shows a remarkable lack of humanity,” said Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “I am thankful to the prosecutors in this case who ensured this dangerous individual is never released.”
At sentencing, family members described the victims as kind and giving people. One shared, “There is a hole in our lives that will never be filled.”
