Woman Armed With Knife Shot By Phoenix Police Officers

Phoenix police are investigating an officer involved shooting that took place Saturday afternoon in the area of 3400 North 12th Place.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on November 9, 2024, at approximately 3:20 p.m., officers responded to a call of a subject with a knife near 3400 N 12th Place. The information indicated a woman was walking through the apartment complex waving a large knife and banging on an apartment. Officers arrive and were directed to the area where they located the woman. Officers saw the 32-year-old woman holding a knife at the top of the stairs leading to two apartments.

Officers ordered the woman to drop the knife and when she did not comply, an officer deployed the non-lethal 40mm Launcher striking her multiple times. She refused to drop the knife. She stood up and began walking down the stairs toward officers while holding the knife. At this time one officer discharged her duty weapon, while a second officer discharged his taser at the suspect, resulting in the suspect falling down and dropping the knife.

Officers were able to detain the suspect and administer life-saving measures. Phoenix Fire personnel later arrived and transported her to a local hospital where she is listed in critical, but stable condition.

The knife used by the suspect was located on scene.
