A Maricopa County man, Elias Retes, has been sentenced to seven years in prison followed by three years of supervised probation for assaulting police officers earlier this year.
On May 18, 2024, Phoenix Police officers responded to a report of a suspicious person setting objects on fire near 525 W Lynwood St. When officers attempted to detain Retes, he violently resisted, injuring several officers in the process.
Retes pleaded guilty to:
- One count of Aggravated Assault, a Class 3 Felony
- One count of Aggravated Assault, a Class 4 Felony
“Violence against our men and women in blue shows a lack of regard for public safety that will simply not be tolerated in Maricopa County,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “This sentencing is proof that my office is working hard every day to ensure individuals who commit such acts are held accountable.”
