
A Utah man, Zakary Preece, has been indicted for stalking and attempting to kidnap his former girlfriend.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, on October 25, 2024, a Utah Police Department alerted the Glendale Police Department that Preece had removed his ankle monitor and was on his way to Arizona looking for his former girlfriend. Preece was about to face trial in Utah for multiple domestic violence related charges.
Days later, Preece was observed near the victim’s home in Glendale. Preece was in his vehicle and as officers attempted to take him into custody, he tried to take his own life. Preece sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound but survived and was arrested at the scene. A search of his vehicle uncovered a firearm, tracking devices, and items indicative of stalking.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a rental home in Glendale tied to Preece, where police recovered additional weapons, restraints, and surveillance equipment.
Preece was indicted on the following charges:
- One count of Attempt to Commit Kidnapping, a class Three Felony
- One count of Stalking, a class Three Felony
- One count of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, a class Six Felony
- One count of Interfering with Judicial Proceedings, a class One Misdemeanor
Preece will remain in custody until trial.
