Senator Ruben Gallego accused of lying about Speaker Mike Johnson.

On Thursday, the Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) filed a Senate Ethics complaint against Senator Ruben Gallego, alleging he made comments physically threatening Speaker Mike Johnson and stating that he is ‘protecting pedophiles.’ CASA argues that the senator’s comments “are completely inappropriate and unacceptable conduct for a U.S. Senator.”

The group seeks a full investigation and punishment of Gallego.

CASA is a nonpartisan organization “dedicated to improving the safety and security of the American people.”

James Fitzpatrick, Director of CASA wrote to Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics Senator James Langford and Vice-Chair Senator Chris Coons:

This complaint addresses potential violations of the United States ethics rules in the United States Senate code of conduct by Senator Ruben Gallego. We ask that you initiate an investigation into Senator Gallego due to his recent comments threatening physical violence toward Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson and his recent lie that Speaker Johnson is somehow engaged in the protection of pedophiles. In these unprecedented times of left-wing violence, we are extremely concerned that Senator Gallego’s public threat and lies could be used to justify more violence.

Senator Gallego is a former United States Marine and a United States Senator from Arizona. In an October 9, 2025 post on Instagram with a caption that reads, “Mike Johnson doesn’t know that’s not Marines fold their arms,” Gallego said (in reference to Speaker Johnson), “And he should be happy I had my arms folded, there’s a reason why Marines fold their arms, it’s because, it’s a way to make sure we restrain ourselves.” Gallego was referencing an in-person confrontation he had with Speaker Johnson in the Capitol the day before this post wherein Gallego had his arms folded.

Additionally, on October 15, 2025, Gallego held a press conference outside of the Capitol with several other members of the House and Senate where he publicly stated the lie that, “Speaker Johnson is protecting pedophiles.”

“Threatening physical violence in the framing, the Speaker of the House rises to the level of misconduct and his behavior that does not show a proper respect for the principles of ethics and morality,” Fitzpatrick explained in his letter. “As United States, Senator, Gallego should know better, have a higher regard for his office, his constituents, his colleagues, and the American people then to engage in such conduct.”

“First, given Gallego’s military training as a Marine, he has the physical capabilities to inflict serious bodily harm,” noted Fitzpatrick. “Any threat whatsoever to any federal official should be taken seriously. But Gallego threatened the Speaker of the House. The Speaker is second in line to be present and a key official for continuity of the American government. Not only is this a threat, but it also encourages others to consider this physical violence. By implying that he could have physically assaulted Speaker Mike Johnson, Gallego is undermining that continuity and inflaming the situation.”

Fitzpatrick concluded, “Senator Gallego’s comments are violation of the ethics rules and are completely inappropriate and unacceptable conduct for a United States Senator. For the reasons outlined above, we request that the Senate Select Committee on Ethics conduct a full and impartial investigation into Senator Gallego’s threat of physical violence and the defamation of Speaker Mike Johnson. Please consider all appropriate forms of punishment available.”
