Hobbs Vetoes Turning Point License Bill

Governor Katie Hobbs has vetoed legislation that would have created a special memorial license plate to celebrate Charlie Kirk’s contributions to civic engagement and free speech.

SB 1439 would have established a Charlie Kirk memorial specialty license plate, in an effort to give Arizonans a “simple way to support the philanthropic organization Charlie built,” according to the bill’s sponsor, Arizona State Senator Jake Hoffman.

“Katie Hobbs’ grotesque partisanship knows no bounds,” stated Hoffman on social media. “Even in the wake of a global civil rights leader — an Arizona resident and her own constituent — being assassinated in broad daylight for his defense of the First Amendment, Hobbs couldn’t find the human decency to put her far-Left extremism aside simply to allow those how wish to honor him to do so. Katie Hobbs will forever be known as a stain on the pages of Arizona’s story.

Hoffman says the funds generated by the plate would be “used to educate and equip, especially students on high school and college campuses, to think for themselves, reject indoctrination, and boldly stand for patriotism, life, liberty, family, and civic responsibility. Designed to sustain itself, the program ensures that Charlie’s vision is not symbolic, but active, practical, and growing stronger with each passing day.”

In her veto letter, Hobbs claimed that the license plate inserts “politics into a function of government that should remain nonpartisan.”

Specialty license plates cost $25 initially and annually, $17 of which goes to a specific charitable cause or organization “working to better Arizona.” All of the available specialty plate designs and the charities they support can be found at azmvdnow.gov/plates.

Gubernatorial candidate, Congressman Andy Biggs blasted Hobbs’ veto.

“Charlie Kirk was one of America’s most influential voices and leaders. He made his home in Arizona, building a company and raising a family in this state before he was assassinated because of his political beliefs,” said Biggs. “Katie Hobbs had a chance to honor Charlie and she vetoed it. A simple license plate for Arizonans to show they stand with Charlie for freedom and Katie Hobbs vetoed it. We should not forget this petty and callous act.”

  1. Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of CK’s work. I enjoyed many hours of his content and debates, even though I didn’t always agree with him. He was a legend in his own time, and a powerful force to counter the Left’s lunacy. That said, I have to agree with the Hobbit this time. I would not support a George Floyd and BLM plate and I can’t support a CK & Turning Point plate. Yes, CK & GF were polar opposites. Yes, TP & BLM couldn’t be more different. But, the commonality remains – this is all about politics and that’s no place for a license plate – get a front plate or a plate holder if you must express yourself.

  2. How come Arizona military veterans have to pay for veteran’s license plates??? It costs the state nothing but some different colored paint!

  3. The Bible says things that were meant for good will be portrayed as evil and things that are evil will be portrayed as good.

  4. Well this was not unexpected and the legislature knew it wouldn’t pass yet they tried it. Anyway. The only thing more useless than Veto Katie is the Arizona Legislature. Keep putting stuff like this on her desk and we will end up with a Democrat Legislature

    • There are many Bills that the Republican Legislature presents to KKKatie Hobbs knowing there isn’t a chance in Hades that she will ever sign. The point in presenting these Bills is to establish a veto record that will somehow bite her in the ass when she is up for reelection or is a candidate for some other future political office. This is a chess game the Legislature is playing, Howie…. not checkers!

  5. What an Idiots.

    Lets look at some of the current Arizona Specialty License Plates available today;

    Fraternal Order of Police = Partisan only to Police

    IAFF Fire Fighters = Partisan only for Fire Fighters

    She needs to be IMPEACHED!!!

  6. I hate to agree with the ***** this time. As long as she remains consistent and denies a plate for the likes of The Toad, e.g.
