Impaired Speeding 18-Year-Old Under Investigation for Death of Phoenix Driver

A 22-year-old driver is dead after their vehicle was struck by the vehicle driven by an 18-year-old man.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, at approximately 1:22 a.m., officers responded to a report of a two‑vehicle collision at the intersection of 12th Street and Bell Road. Upon arrival, officers learned that an SUV driven by an 18‑year‑old male was traveling westbound on Bell Road at a high rate of speed when it struck a sedan traveling southbound on 12th Street.

Phoenix Fire personnel responded and transported the 18‑year‑old driver to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The 22‑year‑old driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased on scene by fire personnel.

Preliminary information indicates that speed and impairment were contributing factors, with impairment associated with the 18‑year‑old driver, who remains hospitalized.

Charges will be determined upon completion of the investigation.
