Phoenix Police Identify Body Found on Fire

The victim is what appears to be a horrific crime has been identified as Calvin Burns.

According to Sergeant John Buchanan of the Phoenix Police Department, just after midnight on June 26th, 2026, officers responded to a report of an unknown trouble just south of 4400 East Washington Street. The initial information was that a body was on fire.

Officers and fire personnel responded and the fire was extinguished. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.

Detectives have not determined what the specific cause of death was, and whether the the 71-year-old Burns was alive or already deceased when he was lit on fire.
