Last week, Essa Williams was found guilty of attempted first-degree murder, in connection to the near-fatal 2021 shooting of Phoenix Police Officer Tyler Moldovan.

Williams was found guilty by a jury of the following charges:
• Attempt to Commit First Degree Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer, a Class Two Felony
• Aggravated Assault, a Class Two Felony
• Aggravated Assault, a Class Three Felony

Williams, a career criminal, shot Officer Moldovan eight times, including a shot to his head on December 14, 2021.

Williams “continued to shoot the officer even after the officer was on the ground,” according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Essa fought with police officers when they attempted to apprehend him.

Although Officer Moldovan was not expected to survive his injuries, after spending a month on life support, he was able to be sent to a rehabilitation center to recover from his injuries.
