The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office has been advised by the USDA Agent that two cases where animals were contacted by wildlife has resulted in the rabies virus being identified in both cases, one a grey fox and the second a skunk.
On September 25, 2017 USDA responded to the Chiricahua National Monument and took a grey fox for testing, which was positive.
On October 18, 2017 USDA responded to Ash Canyon and took a skunk for testing, which was positive. This animal had been chasing a residents’ dogs in the daylight before being captured.
