Arizona COVID-19 Cases At 2,575, With 73 Deaths

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Health Services has reported 2,575 cases of COVID-19 in Arizona and 73 deaths as of Tuesday, April 7. According to the Department 33,375 tests for COVID-19 have been completed by public and private labs in Arizona and 30,991 tests were negative.

Arizona Department of Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ reported on her blog that “state and local public health preparedness programs are busy receiving and distributing life-saving medical supplies from the federal Strategic National Stockpile (SNS). So far, ADHS has distributed more than 181,681 N95 masks, 532,500 surgical masks, 85,248 face shields, 70,570 surgical gowns, 1,756 coveralls, and more than 340,000 surgical gloves to our local public health jurisdictions. Other supplies include thousands of face shields and hundreds of coveralls.”

According to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington in Seattle, COVID-19 related deaths in Arizona are projected to peak April 23 at 17 deaths a day.

Governor Doug Ducey has issued an Executive Order requiring all staff in Arizona residential care institutions, nursing care institutions and related health care facilities to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), implement symptom checks for those entering the facility, and offer electronic communication if visitation is restricted and more.

According to the Governor’s Office, the measures outlined in the order align with new recommendations issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
