
On Thursday, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office announced the passing of “our beloved Deputy Guillermo Vasquez Jr.”
The Sheriff’s Office posted the following on Facebook:
“Deputy Vasquez always went above and beyond the call of duty. He started as a detention officer and worked his way up to become a deputy and serve his community. Deputy Vasquez was passionate, hard-working, and strong-willed. His passing was unexpected and our hearts ache. Please place his family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace Deputy. Vasquez thank you for the bravery and sacrifice you gave to your community. You will be deeply missed.”
Cochise County Sheriff David Hathaway said the Office, “will miss him more than words can express. Our hearts go out to Deputy Vasquez’ family at this difficult time. Please keep them in your hearts and prayers,” according to the Nogales International.
The Sheriff’s Office could not confirm the cause of death, but no foul play is suspected.
Deputy Vasquez got his start early on through the Sheriff’s Explorer program. He had been with the Sheriff’s Office for five years.
