It appears that the Republican Party may want the Ukraine War to continue in the event President Donald Trump should win his long-awaited second term.
That’s the takeaway from convention-goers at this year’s Republican National Committee (RNC) gathering, after signs they were given to brandish that read “Trump Will End the Ukraine War” were confiscated.
According to Republicans who experienced this confiscation, RNC officials determined the signs were “unauthorized.”
RNC staff replaced the confiscated signs with others that were identical in design, but with a different message relating to energy dominance and independence: “American Oil From American Soil.”
The signs were official RNC placards and placed on convention seats ahead of Wednesday evening’s lineup.

The ongoing theme of this year’s convention, aligning neatly with the selection of rags-to-riches Senator JD Vance as the vice presidential pick, has been “the forgotten American.”
The “forgotten” descriptor apparently resonates with many Americans put increasingly under financial pressure from the country’s $54 billion in aid to Ukraine the past two years, a hefty portion of the trillions in spending by the Biden administration.
The House Budget Committee’s Oversight Task Force reported in December that Biden has spent over $1.5 trillion unilaterally through executive actions out of over $11 trillion in spending.
National debt sits at nearly $35 trillion.
The indicator that a potential Trump administration wouldn’t end the Ukraine War contradicts the most recent chatter from Trump and other world leaders on the subject.
Earlier this week and after his meeting with Trump last week, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban advised European Council President Charles Michael that Trump has “detailed and well-founded” plans to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine. Orban made the claim in a letter obtained by The Financial Times.
Orban also predicted, based on his observations in recent talks with Russia, China, and Ukraine, that conflicts were quickly nearing a radical escalation.
Earlier this month, Trump’s communications director Steven Cheung told reporters that the former president’s top priority would be an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Last month, Trump’s top advisors gave the president a plan to end the war by withholding military aid unless Ukraine initiates peace talks with Russia. Key to potential a peace deal would be control of Crimea and the Donbas region, two areas Russia has been keen on regaining control over.
Trump has also consistently claimed along the campaign trail that he could — and would — settle the Russia-Ukraine war in one day upon reelection.
Trump also claimed that, had he been president these past four years, Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine.
Last May, Trump expressed a desire to end the war swiftly to bring peace to Europe.
“They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done — I’ll have that done in 24 hours,” said Trump.
Trump is scheduled to speak on Thursday. By then, it may be made clear whether the president has taken a sudden pivot in his future plans for foreign policy, or whether those lining up for a future administration intend to thwart his plans for peace in Europe.
