Chandler Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder for Deadly Crash that Killed Motorcyclist

A Chandler man, Gustavo Gavia Elias, has been indicted for striking and killing a motorcyclist with his SUV.

The collision happened in the westbound lanes of Ray Road near Alma School Road in Chandler on the evening of March 18th. The defendant is accused of intentionally hitting a motorcycle while driving under the influence, resulting in the rider’s death. Two juveniles were in the defendant’s vehicle at the time of the incident.

According to investigators, the defendant had ongoing animosity towards the victim. Authorities claim the defendant acted aggressively behind the wheel before eventually hitting the motorcycle.

Gavia Elias is facing the following charges:

  • One count of Second-Degree Murder, a Class One Dangerous Felony
  • Two counts of Child Abuse, a Class Three Felony, and a Dangerous Crime Against Children
  • Two counts of Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence, a Class Six Felony
