For Blake Roskopf, the offers never seemed to stop coming. More than 30 Division I college programs courted the No. 12 ranked quarterback in the class of 2027. After months of weighing his options, Roskopf found a new home in Washington.
Roskopf was drawn to Jedd Fisch’s offensive system, which aligns with his skill set, and the proven quarterback development of position coach J.P. Losman.
“I knew right before I called him that I was going to commit,” Roskopf said of Fisch. “It was a long decision, talking with my family, and I just knew that would be the best spot for me to get developed and have the best chance for my future.
“Coach Fisch’s offense, I feel like it fits me very well. Coach J.P. is really good at developing quarterbacks, so I’m excited to see what we can do.”
Roskopf will also be joining Goodyear Desert Edge High School teammate and receiver Zerek Sidney, giving the duo a chance to bring their quarterback-receiver connection to the next level.
Zerek is the No. 40-ranked receiver in the class of 2027 and the sixth-ranked player in Arizona, reports 247 sports.
“Blake is my dog,” Sidney said. “He transferred here and ever since then we just clicked. I had a connection with him on and off the field, so that’s my guy. He’s done a lot for me. I couldn’t have asked for a better quarterback.”
The Huskies finished 9-4 last season, placing seventh in the Big Ten. But with four returning linebackers, quarterback Demond Williams Jr. (a Chandler Basha product) entering his junior year, a strong offensive line and top-15 recruiting recruiting class in the nation per 247 Sports, Fisch is expecting improvement in his third season.
Roskopf put a lot of time into his decision, and leaned on many people, but for Scorpions coach Henri MacArthur, the recruiting process wasn’t about steering his quarterback’s decision. It was about standing beside his player throughout the process.
“I’m always there for him to talk about different things, but ultimately it’s his decision. So I’d say the role mostly is just to support him and help him get as many options as possible,” said MacArthur, who led Desert Edge to the 2024 Class 5A state championship, and the semifinals in Roskopf’s junior year. “That’s where I see that my biggest fit is trying to make sure that these guys are seen by as many schools as possible.”
Roskopf is happy that Sidney will be joining him in Seattle. The duo built chemistry over the past two seasons at Desert Edge and will look to continue that connection at the next level.
“We’ve spent a lot of time together working on and off the field,” Roskopf said. “I’m excited to keep it going in Washington.”
MacArthur has watched that connection develop and believes it’s only the beginning.
“They have an amazing connection here at Desert Edge, which I think will continue to grow through their senior season and into college,” MacArthur said. “It’s pretty rare and special that you get teammates going to the same school. I’d say it’s even rarer that you get teammates that actually play positions that interact with each other.”
Huskies fans have plenty to look forward to after the 6-foot-5, 235-pound quarterback put up excellent numbers in his junior season. Roskopf threw for 2,815 yards and 37 touchdowns and rushed for two touchdowns.
“A smart, pro-style quarterback who can make every throw, with a big arm and a quick release,” MacArthur said. “Blake has a lot of great tools, so I’m interested to see how it all pans out because he can do it all.”
While his talent stands out when everyone is watching, it’s what Roskopf does behind the scenes that MacArthur said elevates his play and leadership style.
“He’s always early,” MacArthur said. “He’s always putting in extra work. The guys and his teammates really respect him because of not only his ability, but his work ethic and his consistency.
“So he’s exactly what you look for in a leader, because he does all the right things. He says all the right things.”
Despite his long list of accomplishments, Roskopf still has goals for his senior year at Desert Edge.
“I’m excited for one last chance to win it all and just be electric,” he said.
