On May 3, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Sahuarita Police officers responded to a residence in the Rancho Sahuarita neighborhood in reference to an assault and criminal damage related to a domestic violence incident.

The victim in this incident told 911 dispatch that her husband, James Springer, 41, had pushed their 16-year-old daughter after damaging various items in the home during an argument. Springer left the residence in his vehicle in an unknown direction. The victim gave a description and the license plate number of the vehicle. The victim also stated that Springer expressed suicidal ideations before leaving the residence and may have had a handgun with him.

A short time later, a Sahuarita Police Officer saw the described vehicle at a gas station, fueling at the pump. The officer confirmed through a license plate check that the vehicle belonged to James Springer. The vehicle left the gas station and headed onto Sahuarita Rd. The officer activated his lights and siren, and the vehicle refused to stop. The vehicle then entered Interstate 19 going northbound. The vehicle was traveling the posted speed limit, but did not stop when indicated by the pursuing officer.

Other agencies, including the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Public Safety, joined the pursuit of the vehicle. A sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the vehicle with road spikes on I-19, but the vehicle drove around the spikes. A DPS officer was able to stop the vehicle with a “grappler” using netting at an exit in Marana. A weapon was found inside the vehicle.

The driver, James Springer, was taken into custody without incident and charged with four counts of disorderly conduct/fighting, one count of criminal damage, one count of threats and intimidation, one count of unlawful flight from law enforcement, two counts of disorderly conduct involving a weapon, and one count of carrying a weapon during the commission of a felony. He was booked into the Pima County Jail.

The Sahuarita Police Department is asking anyone who has information associated with this case, to call 520-351-4900, 9-1-1, or 520-344-7000 during business hours, Monday through Friday, or by contacting the TIP Line at 520-445-7847.
