A woman is in the hospital with critical injuries after being shot by a Scottsdale Police Officer after she pointed a gun at a citizen and Scottsdale PD employees on Thursday morning in the front lobby of the McKellips Police Station, located at 7601 E. McKellips Rd.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, at about 9:45 a.m., an adult woman entered the front lobby of the McKellips Police Station. While in the lobby, she pointed a gun at the station police aide, who then alerted other employees that there was an armed person in the lobby. While officers were responding to the lobby, the woman pointed the gun at another citizen in the lobby, who was there for other police business.

Responding officers entered the lobby, giving loud, direct verbal commands to the suspect to drop the gun. When officers began to enter the lobby, the suspect raised the gun toward the officers. In response to the threat of an innocent citizen, one officer shot the suspect.

Once the woman fell to the ground and dropped the handgun, officers rushed to secure her and render first aid until she could be transported to the hospital for her injuries. The suspect remains under protective custody at the hospital.

No citizens or Scottsdale Police employees were injured during the incident. The time from when the suspect presented the gun until the officer-involved shooting happened was about one minute.

Scottsdale Police detectives are investigating the circumstances of why the adult woman came to the lobby and the events leading up to the officer-involved shooting.
