Driver Arrested In Hit-And Run That Killed Phoenix Bicyclist

A female bicycle rider was killed on Tuesday morning in a hit-and run.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, around 5:54 a.m., officers responded to the area of Greenway Road and Cave Creek Road regarding a collision involving an adult female bicyclist. When officers arrived, they located the woman in critical condition.

The Phoenix Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Detectives learned that the driver was eastbound on Greenway Road, attempting to make a left to go north on Cave Creek Road, when he failed to yield to the bicyclist. After striking the adult female, the driver stopped the vehicle; the passenger got out, and the driver left the area.

Detectives identified the driver as 47-year-old Martin De Jesus Trinidad Sanchez, at a nearby residence, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Sanchez was booked on charges stemming from this investigation.
