Joe Flores campaign materials stolen by Romero supporter Isabel Garcia

Tucson politics are getting dirty, and not even a church is off limits for the likes of Regina Romero supporter Isabel Garcia.

Joe Flores, candidate for City Council Ward 1 today received a phone call from Isabel Garcia, a campaign worker and supporter for Councilwoman Regina Romero admitting that she and her friends stole Joe Flores campaign literature that was placed in parked vehicles during the 9:00 a.m. mass Sunday by Flores volunteers at Holy Trinity Church located on west Greasewood, according to the Flores campaign.

According to election officials, voter turnout this primary season is record setting. High turnout should favor incumbent Romero’s challenger, who is the anti-establishment candidate, democrat Joe Flores.

Prior to the guilty call from Isabel Garcia, the Flores campaign had already received information, “that an anonymous attendee at the church had witnessed the events and that possibly had taken video of the incident.”

In a release sent out from the Flores campaign, Mr. Flores said he was ‘surprised to receive a call from Isabel Garcia offering to return the campaign material. Mr. Flores responded that most definitely he would be waiting for her to come to the campaign office and return the stolen material.’

Mr. Flores stated “This campaign has been a very dirty one from the start, first I have to endure the Democratic Party attacks on my character and now my campaign material is being stolen at church by an attorney working for the Pima County Public Defender’s Office, This is hard to believe.”

Isabel Garcia is now claiming that she was only helping out the priest at Holy Trinity, according to a report by KVOA. Holy Trinity Church has been in the news lately and a center of controversy.

It was the host site for the “Save Ethnic Studies” forum shortly after the “student” takeover of TUSD’s School Board meeting of April 26. The pastor of Holy Trinity has expressed his support for the program. Isabel Garcia is a member if the programs’ Mexican American Studies Advisory Board.

The Flores Campaign has not decided whether to file a criminal complaint on the matter.
