Huppenthal seeking educators for “Teaching Diversity in American History Project”

Under the direction of Superintendent of Public Instruction, John Huppenthal, the Arizona Department of Education’s High Academic Standards Division, is seeking educators for the Teaching Diversity in American History Project.

The project goal is to assemble a committee of Social Studies experts from all levels to work together in creating lesson plans and resources that will help educators throughout the state raise the level of student awareness and understanding of the contributions, past and present, by ethnically diverse individuals and groups to the history and culture of the United States.

The following criteria will be used in the selection process of committee members:

Years of experience teaching American History/Social Studies Participation on Social Studies task forces, committees or subcommittees

Ethnicity (representation of ethnic diversity is desired)

Experience in creating lesson plans and resources that focus on the teaching of diversity in the study of American History

Level(s) of teaching (24 members will be selected, 8 each from elementary, middle and high school)
