Pima County budget transparency vote clarified

Pima County Supervisor Ray Carroll is hoping to clarify the record on his voting record in the matter of a proposal to hold public budget study sessions by Supervisor Ally Miller. Due to the speed of the Board’s disposal of transparency in a 3-2 vote, on Tuesday of this week, many in attendance, including Pima County staff, were confused about who voted for what.

Carroll contacted the AZDI on Thursday asking for clarification of the matter. As a result, we are providing the public with a video of the actual “discussion” that lasts 1 minute 55 seconds including the vote by the Board:

In a radio interview on the morning of May 8, Carroll told Garret Lewis’s listening audience, (listen to interview here) on 790 KNST, that he “leaned into the microphone” to make his yes vote. He told Lewis that proposals need to be sold to other Board members before hand to win their support. The public then questioned why transparency would be a tough sell.
