Maricopa County Sheriff’s fund aids fallen hero’s family

On Monday, in the family of fallen Phoenix Police Department Officer Daryl Raetz was presented with checks for $40,000 from the Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Memorial Fund.

A six year veteran with Phoenix Police, Officer Raetz was killed in the line of duty on May 19, 2013 after he was struck by an SUV while making a DUI arrest. Raetz was an Iraq war veteran.

Arpaio says he is honored to present this check in the name of the MCSO Memorial Fund to the family of Officer Raetz: “The officer’s service to both his country and his community are held in the highest regard.”

According to Steve Cola, the Sheriff’s Memorial Fund which Arpaio instituted in 1998, has raised over $1 million and paid out close to $600,000 to the families of fallen Arizona law enforcement officers.

Arpaio’s Memorial Fund does not pay administrative costs through high end salaries, as a result, every penny raised goes directly to the families of the fallen officers. The Sheriff’s Memorial Fund website (www.mcsomemorialfund.com ). The minimal amount it costs to annually administer the Memorial fund is paid for entirely by the Sheriff’s Advisory Posse members.
