When Tucsonans heard the impassioned pleas for U.S. intervention by a Muslim woman, Rania Hemzawi, at John McCain’s town hall meeting yesterday, they believed they were listening to a neighbor. A next door neighbor – not a global neighbor.
After hearing from listeners of a Tucson radio show, who offered the same description of pro-bombing supporters at both the Phoenix and Tucson town halls, a review of photos from both events began in earnest. A disturbing big picture then emerged.
The pro-bombing attendees at both town halls were in fact the same people.
The New York Times reported last October that according to American officials and diplomats the weapons Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been funneling to the rebels are overwhelmingly ending up in the hands of Islamic jihadists extremist.
Yet yesterday Senator McCain said, “The arms have not gone into the arms of Al-Qaeda.”
“So the second portion of this resolution says that we will arm and assist the right Free Syrian Army that is fighting against Bashar al-Assad,” McCain continued attempting to put critics at ease. “Now some of you may believe how can you do that and not getting into the wrong people? Well, the fact is, the Saudis have been helping these people for a long time with weapons and got them to the right people and also, the fact is, not one American weapon that has got into the hands has been supplied by the United States of America.”
Well the fact is either Senator McCain is unaware of the history of this conflict or directly not telling the truth to encourage support for U.S. intervention in Syria.
