REAL ID bill passes for convenience of few

On Thursday, the Arizona Legislature passed a bill which provides for the identification documents in compliance with the 2005 REAL ID Act. Sen. Worsley complained that the move was necessary to ease conditions for Arizona’s regular flying class.

Prior to Worsley’s push for more federal compliance Arizona was one of several states not fully compliant.

Opponents rejected the idea of government overreach. According to the ACLU, “Opposition to Real ID united everyone from the National Governors Association to the ACLU to the American Conservative Union, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and National Organization for Women to Gun Owners of America, to name a few.”

Still Democrat Rep. Rebecca Rios tied the issue to SB1070 and urged others to support the bill.
