Pinal Inmate Pulls His Eyeball Out of Socket

On Wednesday, July 29th, 2015 at 8:15 p.m. Arizona Department of Public Safety Officers booked Colin Corkhill (age 26 of Scottsdale) into the Pinal County Jail for the charges of Attempted Murder, Theft of Means of Transportation, Aggravated Assault and Resisting Arrest.

Corkhill was originally housed with other inmates in a cell but was observed by detention officers punching himself in the face while standing in the shower. This incident occurred on July 29th at 5:33 p.m.

Corkhill was removed from the cell and checked by medical staff. He was then placed in a cell by himself under a mental health watch.

On Thursday, July 30th, 2015 Corkhill had his Initial Court Appearance where the judge set his bond at $500,000.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “Corkhill remained in a cell by himself under a
mental health watch. On Friday, July 30th, at 6:50 p.m. detention officers while making routine cell checks, observed blood on the window located on the door of the cell which Corkhill was in. The Detention Officers observed Corkhill was laying on the floor of his cell with his right eyeball detached from the socket.”

Sheriff Babeu continued, “Detention Officers and medical staff provided immediate treatment and Corkhill was transported by ground ambulance to the Florence Fire Department and then flown to a local hospital by air ambulance. Doctors at the hospital were unable to save his eye.”

There were no weapons or other instruments inside of the cell. Medical staff and evidence show that Corkhill pulled his eyeball out of its socket with his fingers.

Cohkhill is still being provided medical care at the hospital with officers standing by for security. When Corkhill is released from the hospital, he will be booked back into the Pinal County Jail.
