On December 12, 2017 at approximately 10:00 p.m., a Pinal County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2003 Chevrolet Pickup truck on Interstate 10 at mile marker 195 for a civil traffic violation. The deputy approached the vehicle and observed four men dressed in camouflage attempting to hide themselves by lying down in the back seat area and the passenger side floor board between the front passenger seat and dash board.
When the deputy opened the front passenger door, the deputy could smell the odor of raw marijuana. The deputy went to the driver’s side of the pickup truck and detained the driver who was identified through an Arizona driver’s license as 18-year-old Jorge Ocampo from Phoenix.
The four passengers were removed from the vehicle. They were dressed in camouflage clothing and were wearing carpet shoes.
According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s office, the camouflage and carpet shoes are an indication of drug smuggling.
The bed of the truck was covered and a search of that area was conducted to see if there was more individuals hiding. The deputy uncovered the bed and exposed several bundles of marijuana that weighed
a total of 150 pounds of marijuana.
The four subjects that were dressed in camouflage were turned over to United States Border Patrol.
The driver of the pickup truck was booked into Pinal County Detention Facility for Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana for sale, and Transportation of Marijuana for Sale.
