U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Nogales apprehended two women involved in separate failed attempts to smuggle more than 66 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States on Monday.

Officers working at the Dennis DeConcini Crossing yesterday morning referred an 18-year-old Nogales, Arizona woman for a secondary inspection of her Ford truck when she attempted to enter the United States. During the inspection, a CBP canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect, leading officers to discover more than 65 pounds of meth, worth more than $196,000, throughout the truck.
Later that afternoon, officers at the Morley Pedestrian Crossing referred an 18-year-old Mexican national woman for further inspection. A CBP canine alerted officers to nearly one pound of methamphetamine, worth in excess of $2,900, the woman concealed on her person.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicle, and turned both subjects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
