On Sunday, David Morales, a Tucson blogger posted on Facebook a threat to shoot “the corrupt govt official.” The post was sent to the Arizona Daily Independent by one of Morales’ Facebook “friends.”
The threat was shared with Pima County Supervisor Ally Miller by ADI contributor Loretta Hunnicutt due to Morales’ well-documented obsession with Miller. Representative Mark Finchem alerted authorities to the threatening post.
Morales, whose has earned a reputation as an “anti-white Brown Nationalist,” was briefly institutionalized late last year. According to Morales, he was suffering from suicidal ideation. Morales reported that he was prescribed medication for his condition and was eventually released.
Given the recent mass shootings by mentally ill males, Morales’ post was especially disconcerting.
In his post, Morales wrote: “I’ve decided that I will apply to any grants and advocate gun ownership for all minorities in Tucson. Corrupt govt? Shoot the corrupt govt official… One gun for ALL brown folks to defend ourselves against the tyranny of the govt.. Please help me out ShShaun McCluskynd Joseph Morgan.”
Morgan appears with Morales on the Bill Buckmaster radio show on KVOI. The segment pits the progressive Morales against the conservative Morgan in a discussion of current events. Almost invariably, the discussion devolves into a sensational slugfest.
Approximately 8 hours after his post was reported, Morales attempted to portray himself as the victim. He wrote: “Dear everyone. I don’t advocate killing any govt officials. I am a peaceful person and non-violent. I do think it is ironic that police-loving conservatives defend the Second Amendment to protect themselves against the tyranny of the govt… That means fighting police and military! You will lose. This whole defense of the second amendment is stupid. You cannot defeat Marines and nukes and bomb drops. So why exactly do you want your guns if we all know fighting the US is futil… e? Oh right, owning guns to take land from Natives and to keep Blacks enslaved… And who exactly did use guns against the tyranny of the US… The Confederates and you all support this enemy of the US, flying its flag as Clodfelter does… Hypocrisy is what I see. Don’t try to twist my words against me, you are the genocidal and violent ones, white and PROUD of it, right Ally Miller?”
When Morales is not appearing on the Buckmaster show, he writes on his Three Sonorans’ blog. In 2012, the Tucson Citizen “pulled the plug” on Morales, who was described as “one of their most popular and controversial columnists.”
Morales was booted as a result of a threat of a lawsuit by former Arizona State Rep. Daniel Patterson. According to the Huffington Post, Patterson, who was facing an ethics investigation, “took issue to a line in a Morales post about Patterson:
“Then again, I don’t know what it is like to have rich parents or a father who was a mayor to shower privilege upon me by hiring lawyers to always get charges dropped.”
In response, Patterson contacted the editor of the Tucson Citizen:
“Total lie. This racist liar doesn’t know me or my family. Why do you continue to host him? His BS on this issue could cause a big lawsuit. Daniel”
According to Huffington Post, the editor reported that Morales’ “history of sketchy fact-checking was a factor in the decision to shut down Morales’ blog.”
Morales’s brand of hate is not reserved for non-white people. He has frequently uses epithets against conservatives, calling African American radio show host James T. Harris and others “Uncle Toms,” and Latino Republicans “vendidos.”

I advocate for gun ownership for all, regardless of status. As to shooting government officials, not sure what you are talking about, but I agree with Shaun, I’m not for that, unless they literally give you no other option, which is what the British government did to our founding era!
