The Sedona City Council voted to repeal an overreaching requirement that forced operators of short-term rentals to obtain a business license in violation of state law.
On May 22, the City Council to action in response to a report by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office that found that the City’s requirement violated a 2016 state law on short-term rentals.
The City had to remove the requirement within 30 days or face a loss of state-shared revenue.
Rep. Darin Mitchell sought the opinion from the Attorney General’s Office. Arizona law requires the Attorney General’s Office to investigate matters if a lawmaker believes a local government is violating state law.
