Tucson Police Investigating Fatal Collision

The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a fatal collision that occurred Monday that took the life of 69-year-old Richard Andrew Harclerode.

On December 10, 2018, just before 6:30 a.m.,Tucson Police officers responded to a serious-injury collision in the 5000 block of South Kolb Road. Officers learned two vehicles were involved. Tucson Fire immediately transported the driver of a 2006 Toyota Camry, Harclerode, to Banner University Medical Center. On the way to the hospital Mr. Harclerode was declared deceased. The adult female passenger of the Camry was transported to Banner University Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the 2008 Nissan Titan was transported to St. Joseph’s hospital with minor injuries.

Officers were able to determine that Mr. Harclerode was traveling southbound in the 5000 block of S. Kolb Rd. with his passenger in the seat beside him. Traffic was backed up at this time. Mr. Harclerode attempted a U-turn at the cutout portion of median with “No Turn” and “Emergency Vehicles Only” signs posted. Mr. Harclerode made his U-turn into northbound Kolb Rd., when he pulled out directly in front of the Titan, which was northbound in the median lane of S. Kolb Rd. when the collision occurred. Mr. Harclerode’s next-of-kin was advised of the death.

There were no indications of impairment and speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
