Flagstaff man killed after squatting in front of oncoming train

Flagstaff Police are investigating a collision involving a train and Jake Hoyungowa in the downtown area of Flagstaff near W. Route 66 and S. Beaver Street.

According to Flagstaff Police, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Flagstaff Police officers responded to call about a man struck by the train. The train was heading east when the Engineer saw Mr. Hoyungowa squatting in the middle of the railroad tracks facing away from the train and covering his ears as the train approached. The train was unable to stop and struck Mr. Hoyungowa.

The Flagstaff Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
