Tucson Teen Killed In Apparent Gang-Related Shooting

Tucson Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that took the life of 18-year-old Julian Zepeda that occurred on Friday morning on Tucson’s South Side.

According to Tucson Police, on May 24, 2019, at approximately 10:00 a.m., officers were initially dispatched to a single-vehicle collision with injuries across the street from Las Villas De Kino Apartments (5515 South Forgeus Avenue).

Officers found Julian, who was still inside of the vehicle with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. Officers rendered aid utilizing their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) until the Tucson Fire Department responded and took over medical care. Tucson Fire transported Julian to Banner University Medical Center.

Witnesses reported that a single shot was heard prior to the collision, and a male was seen fleeing into the apartment complex shortly after. Officers searched the area where the suspect was last seen, and located a juvenile male, whom was identified as being the fleeing suspect. The suspect was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

Tucson Police Homicide Unit officers responded and learned that one of the parties involved was a documented gang member. The Tucson Police Gang Unit responded to continue the investigation.

Julian succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on the evening of May 24, 2019.
