UPDATED – Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Hoping To Identify Deceased Man

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased male as Alan Arvey. Mr. Avery
of Sun City, had been reported missing by his family to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) earlier in the week.

Coconino County Sheriff’s detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying the deceased male that was located in the Oak Creek Canyon area.

On Saturday, August 17, 2019 Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Hwy 89A near milepost 389, the area commonly referred to as the switchbacks of Oak Creek Canyon, for a report of a recovered stolen vehicle. That same day detectives responded to a deceased elderly male near the area the vehicle was located.

The man is described as Caucasian, approximately 6’1″ tall, between the ages of 70 – 80, with a surgical scar on his abdomen, and no tattoos.

At this point in the investigations, it is unknown if the two are connected.

The vehicle is described as a 2006 Silver Hyundai Sonata passenger car with an Arizona State flag front license plate.

The Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone who traveled Hwy89A between Sedona and Flagstaff Friday night through Saturday morning to contact the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 928-226-5087.
