Police Investigating Downtown Tucson Homicide

The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating the death of 25-year-old Jason Garcia that occurred after an altercation on December 8, in Downtown Tucson.

According to Tucson Police:

On December 8, 2019, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers responded to a call about a fight S. 5th Street and E. Congress Street. Officers were directed to the front the Hub restaurant located at 266 E. Congress where they found Mr. Garcia accompanied by a relative. Officers noted that both Mr. Garcia and the relative had facial injuries, were intoxicated and provided minimal details as to what happened.

Witnesses at the scene described a physical confrontation involving Mr. Garcia, his relative and at least two other unknown individuals. Tucson Fire Medics responded and tended to both Mr. Garcia and his relative. Once Tucson Fire cleared from the scene, the relative remained with Mr. Garcia.

While Mr. Garcia and his relative were waiting for a ride, Mr. Garcia fell to the ground in front of 278 E. Congress Street. Tucson Fire once again responded and transported Mr. Garcia to Banner University Medical Center with serious injuries. Mr. Garcia was admitted to the hospital where doctors determined he sustained life-threatening injuries. On December 9, 2019, investigators were informed that Mr. Garcia had passed away from his injuries. Next of kin has been notified.

On the evening of December 17, 2019, the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner ruled Mr. Garcia’s cause of death to be homicide.

Investigators believe there were multiple witnesses in the area at the time of the incident since many businesses were closing at the time. Anyone with information is asked to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
