YUMA, AZ – On early Tuesday morning, a convicted sex offender, Rosario Antonio Tena-Hernandez, was apprehended by Border Patrol agents as he was hoping to catch a train out of Yuma.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the 41-year-old Mexican national Tena-Hernandez, was among four migrant men who were encountered at the Amtrak station in Yuma just before 3 a.m. as they waited for a train to arrive.

Agents determined that all 4 of the men were illegally present in the U.S. through questioning, and subsequently transported them to the Yuma station for further processing. As part of the intake process, record checks were conducted on the men and revealed that Tena-Hernandez was a convicted sex offender.

Tena-Hernandez was arrested in 2017 for sex with a minor and convicted of the crime in a California court a year later. Tena-Hernandez was sentenced to three years in prison; however, it is unknown how much time he served.

Tena-Hernandez will be prosecuted for felony reentry after a previous removal from the U.S. and faces additional jail time.
