Suspect Accused Of Injuring Maricopa County Deputy Shot By Homeowner In Tonopah

PHOENIX, AZ — On Saturday night, the suspect who assaulted a Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputy earlier in the day is in critical condition was shot after trying to rob a home in Tonopah.

The suspect, Clinton Robert Hurley, exchanged gunfire with the home owner with whom he was familiar. Police were made aware of a shooting at around 6:30 p.m. and found the Hurley near the home in the area of 373rd Avenue and Buckeye Road.

Hurley, age 30, taken to the hospital where he is in critical condition, officials say.

The Sheriff’s Office has not identified the deputy allegedly attacked by Hurley. He was found unconscious and bleeding from the face by another deputy near Van Buren Street and Dysart Road.

The deputy was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition, according to Sheriff Paul Penzone.
