PBS Betrayed All Arizona Voters

Ted Simmons has served as the host for debates on PBS sponsored by the Clean Elections Commission.

The PBS debates, sponsored by the Clean Elections Commission, have become tradition in Arizona – giving voters the chance to find out how candidates differ in points of view and how they would perform under pressure from opposition. This time, PBS has decided to provide instead a 30-minute segment for gubernatorial Democrat candidate Katie Hobbs to be interviewed alone on a prime-time program – without any response allowed from her opponent Kari Lake. This is another example of Democrats’ support of bad behavior.

From the beginning, Katie Hobbs refused absolutely to debate Kari Lake. She based this decision on how Lake had performed in the primary debate when competing with other Republican candidates. Lake proved quite aggressive but, nevertheless, the two other candidates countered Lake effectively. The voters realize that the office of governor REQUIRES such communication skills. It is not acceptable for a governor to go mute on controversial issues – which is exactly what Katie Hobbs has demonstrated would be her modus operandi.

PBS bias against Republicans has been obvious for some time. Recently, the moderator added a second, well-established Democrat to help with the questioning in both the AZ Attorney General and Superintendent of Public Instruction debates. Republicans tuned in nevertheless and did not complain because at least PBS had allowed their candidates something.

Initially, PBS was going to allow Kari Lake to be interviewed alone because of Katie Hobbs’ refusal to appear with Lake. On the afternoon before the scheduled program, PBS cancelled Lake’s appearance and, instead, set up the solitary Hobbs interview – most likely, complete with soft ball questions – pre-arranged to make Hobbs look good!

PBS has gone way too far. The Clean Elections Commission is furious – intent on setting up political debates on another station from this time forward! Hopefully, that will be the outcome because many of us are tired of PBS’s obvious prejudice against Republicans. Due to this possibility, PBS is now willing to interview Kari Lake, probably at a late date in October after most people have voted!

The debate issue is only one example of Democrats’ support of bad behavior. They seem to be in love with the bad guys, at the detriment of law-abiding citizens. Crime has doubled, even tripled in large cities such as San Francisco, New York City and Los Angeles, as a result of policies that defund and hamper police action. They have put in office officials who refuse to incarcerate repeated felons! They want to do the same in Arizona.

Teachers are leaving classrooms in droves – not because of salaries as the Democrat-dominated media report – but because teachers are not allowed to discipline students who scream obscenities and threats at them! In such an atmosphere, bad behavior takes over and learning becomes impossible. Consequently, students in Arizona district schools have scored, before Covid and recently, barely above 30% proficiency in math and below 40% in reading.

Our only choice against the Democrats – who obviously have no respect for those who believe in following reasonable rules and laws – is to vote Republican and only Republican in the upcoming election.
