A Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives appears to be the Democratic Party’s newest distraction in the wake of the resignation of Josselyn Berry, Governor Katie Hobbs’ press secretary. Berry was forced to resign for tweeting a violent message about “transphobes” on the same day of the tragic mass shooting in Nashville by a transman.
According to Capitol insiders, the fresh attack on Arizona State Rep. Alex Kolodin for his comments made during a discussion of religious liberty and parental rights is “a smart attempt” to deflect attention from the ongoing Hobbs’ administration personnel dramas.
Kolodin came under fire from Democrats for a statement made during a discussion of SB 1323, a bill sponsored by Sen. Jake Hoffman, that would classify, “as a class 5 felony, a violation of the prohibition on a public school referring students to or using any sexually explicit material in any manner.”
Kolodin, a devout Jew, was defending his faith’s religious practices in a Judiciary Committee hearing centered around consideration of Hoffman’s bill when he made the point that the state’s interest must take a back seat to parent’s interest in a manner they see fit.
As an example of what he believes is government overreach, he used the example of states like California attempting to place restrictions on Jewish practices and stated the second amendment was put in place precisely to prevent such infringements on religious liberty.
Progressive Jews have privately warned Democratic Party consultants that the attack on Kolodin has taken on an anti-Semitic tone and should cease. It would appear their requests are not being heeded by the Democratic Party:
Yes you antisemitic so and so I said I would shoot any person who tried to stop me from raising my kids Jewish and I stand by my statement. The Jews in Nazi Germany didn't have the second amendment, I do. You got a problem with that? pic.twitter.com/8AWtAs3RMj

“The idea that Jews have no legitimate right of self defense is a Nazi trope that our founding fathers understood has no place in America,” Kolodin told the Arizona Daily Independent. “That is why God and the U.S. Constitution gave us the Second Amendment.”
