Phoenix Man Lying On Train Tracks Killed By Train

Phoenix police are investigating a collision that occurred on the railroad tracks near 3500 West Grand Avenue that left one man dead.

Phoenix police officers responded to a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a train near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road. When officers arrived, they located the pedestrian, later identified as 59-year-old Richard Sierzega, with obvious signs of injury on the railroad tracks near 3500 West Grand Avenue. The fire department responded and later pronounced Sierzega deceased on scene.

Detectives responded to investigate the collision and learned Sierzega was laying on the tracks just before the collision occurred. The conductor was unable to stop the train in time to avoid the collision.

The investigation remains active.
